Wightlink yesterday (Tuesday) suspended its Yarmouth-Lymington ferries. The last ferry left the Island at 9:30pm.
With Hampshire being the 2nd most infected area in the UK would it have not been sense to close Fishbourne-Portsmouth and operate from Yarmouth-Lymington?
Speaking to an operative from Wightlink who wished to remain anonymous he said “its crazy, people are still arriving here, even today (Tuesday 31st) on holiday from the mainland. These people are inconsiderate and stupid.”
Is it too late for Wightlink to restrict travel for essential freight and travellers who can prove they reside on the Island all year round and are travelling back home?
A simple check of driving licenses would be enough, as second home owners will most likely have their mainland address on their driving licence.
Why did Bob Seely MP not lobby the ferry companies from day one to put a sensible plan into action? Where we are currently the 2nd lowest infected area in the country, we had a golden opportunity to keep the lid on the virus, was this a wasted opportunity?
