Police set up Islandwide checkpoints

1 min read

Yesterday (Sunday) the police were present opposite St Georges Park (Newport Football Club) pulling cars over to question drivers with passengers.

The police are asking where you live, why you are out and how long you have been out and most importantly what is the purpose of your journey.

If you do not have a valid reason to be out of your home then they have the powers to either tell you to go home or issue a £60 on the spot fine. (Reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days,)

We are going to see more and more of these checkpoints especially around our main towns and Island beauty spots.

Regulations are set to get tougher in the weeks to come and this situation is now expected to continue for 6 months in some form or another, until life returns to normal.
